Seated Woman with Cat

Oil, graphite, pastel, mineral spirit wash; 92” x 74”

Note about the picture :

We oppress ourselves within ourselves, we as individuals oppress other individuals and we as a group (micro and macro) oppress other groups. Sometimes we do this with casual indifference and sometimes with breathtaking aggression and cruelty. The main figures in the picture clearly represent this oppressor/oppressed dynamic but what does the seated - and seemingly disinterested - figure represent? Lastly, the cat is the only figure looking directly at the viewer but why? And why is it there in the first place?
